I\u00a0 like colourful umbrellas, as on a rainy day when many of them are fully opened they embellish any street. An image very similar to the one given by the traditional colourful koinobori, the Japanese flying carp<\/strong>, floating in the wind.<\/p>\n

For my modern interpretation of the\u00a0koinobori<\/strong> I chose Tyvek<\/strong>, a material used in high-tech industry<\/strong> for among other things protective foil for cars, printed military maps and children\u2019s books. Shape and dimension of the original koinobori is only slightly altered.<\/p>\n

The sides are cut by means of templates. Then, with a waterproof pen and in varying versions, the fish are painted in very reduced lines mirroring the waves of the water<\/strong>. When dried up, the sides are sewn together. And to keep the koinobori from flying away, inside the white ring, the fish\u2019s mouth, a bowline knot<\/strong> fastens the PE-strings to the carbine which serves as a hook.<\/p>\n
